Purposes of the Bible Quiz

The Bible is our resource book for life. It includes guidance for one’s Earthly life and guidance for how we can have Eternal life. The Bible/New Testament is relevant for today. 1. Contains God’s impartial, eternal standard of Truth.

• Psalm 119:89-91- Your Word, O Lord is eternal
• Psalm 119:160- all your Words are true… all your righteous laws are eternal.
• (What is tall? Comparison)
• The Bible is objective Truth by which everything else must be measured.
• It reveals what is right and what is wrong.

2. Constitutes a guide for our lives

• Psalm 119:105 – Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
• The Bible provides both general direction for our lives and specific guidance as we live one day at a time. 
• General direction (for all of us)
• We should all seek for God’s salvation
• We should all be kind to others
• We should all be people of integrity
• We should be willing to forgive 
• Specific guidance (for me)
• Called into ministry- pastor
• Then missions
• And teaching 

3. Comforts, teaches and encourages us

• Romans 15:4 - …gives endurance and encouragement…
• In Zulu- To encourage… to carry… “Ukukhuthaza”
• Saying “What we learn from God’s Word enables us to endure life’s difficulties and not lose hope”.

4. Cautions us about the mistakes of others

• Examples from Scripture warn us of the consequences of sin and show us what to avoid:

• Example: The sin of King David and Bathsheba 
• Achan 
• Ananias and Sapphira
• Modern-day example: Meth users: 

5. Comprises a tool against temptation

• Matthew 4:4,7 – When tempted Jesus quoted Scripture.
• One of the greatest temptations young people face today: PORNOGRAPHY – (My testimony) 

6. Communicates knowledge of God

• John 5:39 – These are the scriptures that testify about me (Jesus)
• What we know about God we learn from Scripture—without it our understanding of God is inadequate and incomplete.

7. Causes us to be equipped to be God’s servants.

• The Bible is our basic equipment and training manual/tool.
