Fully God, Fully Human

Requisitos de finalización

The study of Christ is known as Christology. One of the central beliefs of Christianity throughout the centuries is the belief that Jesus Christ is both fully divine and fully human. (We call such beliefs “orthodoxy,” for “right belief.”) Christians do not believe that Jesus was half-man and half-God. That would be Hercules. Christians believe that Jesus was fully human and fully divine.

This understanding is derived from the Scriptures and has been confirmed in several key historical events, such as the Council of Nicaea (325) and the Council of Chalcedon (451). These councils addressed various “heretical” or unorthodox beliefs and firmly established the orthodox position on the nature of Christ. Despite the fact that Christians have agreed for almost two thousand years on this topic, some modern-day versions of these ancient heresies continue to pop up here and there, especially on a popular level.
