What’s a good topic?

Completion requirements

Kingswood Learn is a platform initiated by Kingswood University, built by Campus Edu, to serve The Wesleyan Church and beyond. The material on it is intended to be free to the church in order to “equip the saints” (Eph. 4:12). However, these learning experiences also culminate in the opportunity for an expert to review content that a learner has generated while working through the course. And sometimes, MicroCourses can stack into larger certifications and even academic credit.

What is a good topic for the platform? The video introduction to this lesson gives you a sense of some of the initial categories for which the platform was designed. Here are some general guidelines to expand on what was said there.

First of all, all material on the platform should assume a Christian view of the world. It is not that the material must explicitly engage matters of Christian faith, but Christian faith should be an assumption of the material. This would not be a place to promote other religions or put material that stands in conflict with Christian faith assumptions.

Second, the focus of the platform is to equip Christians and churches. Submitting material from outside the Wesleyan tradition is encouraged. Feel free to consult with Kingswood about such material.

After identifying this focus, much of the material on the platform will have a broad application. Topics like “how to live stream a service” or “how to start a podcast” would have wide applications, even outside the church. In that sense, topics that present tools with far-reaching value are very appropriate.

The video introduction suggested three broad categories that Kingswood Learn initially had in mind:

  1. Practical Things

If you look at the content currently on the platform, you will see micro courses like “Crisis Management for Church Leaders” and “Finding Balance in a Busy Life.” Although much of this material is directed at church leaders, any material that might be of practical value to a Christian might be considered. This could include material of a very broad nature.

  2. Biblical and Theological Resources

Perhaps it is no surprise that much of the material on the platform is of a biblical or theological nature. The platform has courses ranging from brief guides to Old and New Testament to Basic Christian Doctrine and church history. If you have content that helps disciple the church in the Bible, theology, or church history, Kingswood Learn may very well be a place for it.

  3. Urgent Topics

The platform was also intended to be a place where urgent issues of the day could be tackled. For example, the course “A Theology of the Body” lays the groundwork for discussing transgenderism and homosexuality. Someone might design a course aimed to equip you to have difficult conversations or make difficult decisions on urgent topics of the day like these.

Kingswood University is the gatekeeper for the Kingswood Learn platform. At the end of this lesson, we suggest you reach out to Kingswood (kingswoodlearn@kingswood.edu) in preparation for content submission. You may contact them at any point in this process.
