In urban church planting, stepping into the community's culture authentically is crucial without attempting to impose an external culture or expectations.
Avoiding Suburban Implants
- Don't Fake It: Authenticity is key. Adapting to urban culture doesn't mean changing who you are or mimicking urban styles inauthentically.
- Respect the Indigenous Wisdom: Every community has its wisdom and strengths. Urban church planters should honor and learn from these rather than assuming they have all the answers.
- Understand the Worship Context: Music and worship styles that resonate in a suburban context might translate poorly in urban settings. It's essential to adapt worship practices to fit the urban culture genuinely.
