The Hooks

Completion requirements

Whether someone goes beyond a mere glimpse at your course will largely depend on two things: the title of your course and the image on the “course tile.” The image could be a picture of you, perhaps a still frame from your video trailer (see below), or it could be something else that’s relevant to your material. Faces often sell.

If they click on your course, you will get a chance to show them a “trailer” and give them your course description. These are the “hooks” that may make all the difference.

Title

The title of your course is like the gate. You want it to describe your course accurately, but you also want it to hook someone into watching the trailer. Whether someone watches your course may start or end here. Shorter is better than longer.

Trailer

Each course begins with a trailer. These trailers serve several purposes. The trailer helps potential participants know if they would be interested in enrolling in the course. From your point of view, they are your chance to pique a potential user’s interest. You may have great content, but no one will see it if you don’t catch their attention, whether by your title, trailer, or a referral. Picture yourself trying to decide if you are going to watch something on Netflix. Your trailer is, well, the trailer.
