Be sure to watch Dr. Chris Bounds’ overview of this lesson and to read Chapter 12 in the textbook before doing this and the other assignments for this module.
The Wesleyan tradition says that it believes in Christian perfection, and Dr. Bounds explains what this concept means in relation to our lives here and now while we are still on earth. But many Christians – indeed many Wesleyans – still find the concept difficult. We have it “on the books,” but do we really believe it?
In this Discussion Forum, let’s have an honest discussion about entire sanctification or Christian perfection as John Wesley called it. What questions do you have about the doctrine? Did you find Dr. Bounds’ explanation of various approaches to the topic helpful in clarifying it?
Present your thoughts in an initial post of at least 300 words. Do you struggle with this concept? Do you need clarity on what it means?
After making your initial post, please read through your classmates’ responses and make at least three follow-up comments on a different day than your original post. Your response should contribute meaningfully to the discussion. You might ask questions for further insight or clarification. You might provide additional examples or perspectives or challenge ideas respectfully. Each follow-up comment should be at least 100 words. This discussion is worth 40 points.
