Discussion: Preparing the Way of the Lord

Number of replies: 1

John the Baptist is described in the New Testament as a voice in the wilderness who exhorted the people to be ready, to prepare themselves morally and spiritually to receive the Messiah. When the crowds approached him asked, ‘What shall we do?’, he told them: ‘He who has two coats, let him share with him who has none; and who has food, let him do likewise’. To the tax collectors he said, ‘Collect no more than is appointed you’. He told the soldiers, ‘Rob no one by violence or by false accusations, and be content with your wages’.

All of us are to prepare a straight path for the Lord. This means we are to remove all obstacles which are standing in the Lord’s way, preventing him from being able to have a relationship with us. As you read about how John the Baptist prepared the way of Jesus, also reflect on how you can do the same.

For this module's discussion, reflect on the following:

  • How can you point people to God and/or prepare the way of the Lord?

Be sure to reply to at least two of your classmate's posts by the end of the module.  Your replies should be insightful and further the discussion.

Our lives should be a beacon of light to point others to God. We should live our lives in such a way that when people look at us, they say "Hey, what is it that that person has that makes them different?". By living our lives in a mindset of Imitating Christ, we can approach all situations in a way that is honouring to God, and shows His love to others. "They will know us by our love."

A song that describes this well, is "I'm Using my Bible for a Roadmap". You've likely heard of it, but if not, I encourage you to give it a listen.
