Reflect on the form and meaning of Christianity in your local context. On the one hand, is your church a “faithful presence” in your context, as James Davidson Hunter put it? This is a positive presence that both makes your context a better place and that the Holy Spirit can easily use to draw people to him. Or is your church completely unknown in your context? Or does the presence of your church and your people have more of an effect of driving people away from faith?
Secondly, do your gatherings bear any resemblance to the historic forms of Christianity? Do you think this element is significant at all, or only a statement on when and where Newbigin was born and raised? Is there mystery in your worship? Is there any connection with the saints of the past or the New Testament church?
