Practice (Lesson 2)

Completion requirements

Dr. Buckingham says in his video overview, “How do we make the switch? That’s the big question that really needs to be discussed. And I’m telling you that, for me, it was a dramatic thing that had to happen. Didn’t happen instantly. It took probably a year for it to really develop.”

He then tells about how, for a year, he started encouraging people. It took time, but he stopped thinking of “me” and started thinking of others. When he went to speak somewhere, he just went with the focus on being an encouragement to every person he talked to without expectations of what anybody would say to him or think of him. He then says, “And I'm telling you, I was right for real. And what a good feeling it was.”

Spend the next week following Dr. Buckingham’s example. Try not to say a critical or disparaging word to anyone. If you have to give corrective feedback, make it in the most positive and encouraging way possible. Notice everyone and be an encouragement to as many people as possible. At the end of the day, catalog your experiences.

After the week is over, upload your reflections on the week below. Do you feel any different than before? Can you feel your attitudes being affected by the process? Report.
