Practice: Risk and Reward

Whether on paper or electronically, create two columns. Over one column, write, “The Risk.” Over the other, write, “The Reward.” Perhaps over the space of hours or even days, begin to contemplate the walk of obedience and discipleship that stands before you. What will it call you to risk? What might vulnerability to others bring that is scary? Even more deeply, what “protective armor” have you put on to protect you against hurt? What are the risks of taking it off and replacing it with the armor of God?

Now work on the other column, “The Reward.” What are the rewards of discipleship and obedience? How might it move you toward wholeness and healing? How might you trust Christ to be your defense and let down your guard? What are the benefits of living more vulnerably among the community of faith?
