Practice: Contemporary Issues

Completion requirements

When it comes to a theology of the body today, issues of transgenderism and gender dysphoria have recently come to the fore. A surprising number of individuals today are indicating that they do not “identify” with the gender of the body they have. A person with a male or female body might say their body does not match who they are (e.g., someone might say they are a woman trapped in a man’s body or a man trapped in a woman’s body). In some cases, individuals go as far as undergoing procedures to change their sex.

Using the material from this lesson and additional research you might do, including material from the Supplemental Resources, flesh out how you think the theology of the body presented in this Lesson might play itself out in relation to transgenderism or homosexual practice. Imagine you encounter someone struggling with this issue who is unsure what the Bible has to say about it. In 600 words or more, draft a response to the person.
