Lesson 4 Reflection Activities

Completion requirements
  1. Read Hebrews 10:24. List at least three ways that you, personally, are motivating your pastor to love and do good works.

  2. At some point in the near future, ask the pastor if the 3 ways from the previous question are actually, or effectively, motivating them to love others and do more good works. Does that Pastor honestly feel affirmed through this list of your activities? Has he or she even noticed? Take some time to prayerfully reflect and write a new list that you think might be even more effective.

  3. In the past month, how many specific times have you positively affirmed your pastor (to your pastor)? In the past month, how many times have you publicly endorsed your pastor to others? In the past month, how many specific times have you disagreed (publicly or privately) with your pastor? In the past month, how many specific times have you criticized (publicly or privately) your pastor? If the latter two numbers are greater than the former two, you need to recognize that you are not actually affirming your pastor, and this is an area that needs to be addressed.

  4. Also, consider the weight of your affirmations vs the weight of your disagreements/criticisms from the previous question. Do your affirmations outweigh your criticisms? If you asked your pastor, would he or she remember your affirmations or your criticisms? Would your pastor consider you a teammate or an opponent in ministry? What steps can you personally take to become even more of an affirming endorser of your pastor?

  5. Are you being as generous as you possibly can be with the pastor’s compensation package? Are there ways that you can effectively be more generous? Does your pastor have a sabbatical planned every 5-7 years? What steps can you take to actuate a sabbatical plan for your pastor?
