Lesson 1 Reflection Activities

- The video lists some activities that identify if a church board is successful or not: a) lost people get found, b) found people grow in maturity, c) the surrounding community is transformed by the gospel, d) no personal agendas, e) no elephants or taboo topics, f) pray together occurs specifically to discern God’s will for the church. If these activities are occurring in your church, then your board is successful.
Write down this list of activities, and then for each item on the list honestly assess how much each of these things occurs. Try to put a number on it for three categories: 1) How many times has this occurred in our church in the last month? 2)How many times has this occurred in our church in the last 6 months? 3) How many times has this occurred in the last year?
Based solely on these numbers, how successful is your church board?
Finally, in what practical ways do you personally contribute to making the board more successful? Are there any things that you personally do that hinder the board’s success? - Read Hebrews 13:1-21. Identify three important thoughts that impact church leadership in this passage. For each thought, consider the following three questions: a) How does this thought impact how you lead in your church? How does this thought impact how you follow other leaders in your church? How can you best teach others in your church the importance of this thought?
