A Comparison of the Gospel Account

There are many different images of what Jesus may have looked like. I enjoy going to museums to see how different artists will portray Him. As I would gave upon each painting I realized the following: Each of the artists was seeking to represent the fullness of Jesus’ divine and human natures in an artistic representation. The portrayals of Jesus in art form have tended to follow the artistic conventions of the time and will reflect contemporary theological developments. In other words, the artists were seeking to present a Christ who made sense to the people who would view their artwork.

Review these different pictures of Jesus Christ (pdf). Spend a few moments reflecting on each, asking yourself the question, “Why did the artist portray Jesus the way he or she did?”
