Assignment

Christ in Scripture

Completion requirements

Just as you looked at a number of key Scriptures relating to God the Father, in this module we want to look at some key passages about the second person of the Trinity, Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Doing research will help you unfold the depth of each passage.

Look up the following Scriptures. Try not to simply read the verse alone but in the context of the passage where it is. Write at least a paragraph on each verse indicating what it teaches you about Christ while also noting any questions you might have about it. You can also add additional Scriptures that inform your understanding of Christ.

  • Matthew 1:23 - “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God with us’).”
  • John 1:1-14 - “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning... The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.”
  • John 10:30 - “I and the Father are one.”
  • Philippians 2:6-8 - “Who, being in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to exploit, but he emptied himself, taking the form of a servant. And being made in human likeness and being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!”
  • Colossians 1:15-20 - “The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created... and in him all things hold together.”
  • Hebrews 1:1-3 - “The Son is a reflection of God’s glory and the image of his substance, sustaining all things by his powerful word.”
  • Hebrews 4:15 - “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.”
  • John 14:6 - “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
  • Revelation 19:11-16 - “With justice he judges and wages war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns.”
  • Romans 3:23-25 - “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”
