Lesson 1 Reflection Activities

Completion requirements
  1. Consider the 5 myths about reading the Bible:
    • Myth #1: I should read the Bible every day.
    • Myth #2: I ought to read the Bible for a certain time.
    • Myth #3: I should change every time I read the Bible.
    • Myth #4: I should read the whole Bible in a year.
    • Myth #5: I should read the Bible in order.

Have you felt the pressure to believe and follow any of these myths? Take a moment to acknowledge any of these that you have been pressured by, and set them aside. These myths lead us to reading the Bible out the motivation of the “Guilt Machine”. Write down the myths that you have felt the pressure to follow, and then write down a statement that you are free from the necessity of following that myth any more.

  2. Read Psalm 1. Reflect on the word “Delight”. How do you delight in reading the Bible? Are there any thoughts or distractions or pressures that limit the delight that you have in reading scripture? Write down any other thoughts or reflections about reading scripture that arose in your mind while you meditate on Psalm 1.
