Assignment

Practice: Back Pocket Activities

Completion requirements

In this exercise, you are encouraged to think creatively about using unstructured time to foster camper engagement and development.

Instructions

  1. Reflect: Begin by reflecting on an impactful unplanned event or interaction you experienced, either as a participant or leader. Write a short account of this experience, focusing on what made it memorable and transformative.
  2. Downtime Ideas: Identify or develop three "back pocket" activities that camp staff could use during unexpected downtimes. Ideally, these activities are versatile, require minimal resources, and can be adapted to different age groups. Describe each activity briefly, explaining how it encourages engagement and connection among campers. Get extra creative and name these activities.

Submission

Submit your reflective account, along with the titles and descriptions of your back pocket activities, using the option below.

NOTE: If you are having a mental block, you don't have to recreate the wheel. Gather inspiration from the web or other colleagues, and put your own spin on ideas that you learn about. Be sure to give credit where it is due.
