Practice: Identifying Culture Creators and Carriers in Your Team

In this activity, we will attempt to better understand the dynamics of your team's culture by identifying culture creators and carriers and the support you may already have in place for these roles.

Instructions

  1. Reflect on Your Team: Think about your current team or a team you have recently worked with.
  2. Identify Culture Creators: Based on the characteristics discussed in the lesson, identify 2-3 individuals you believe are culture creators. Consider the following:
    • Who brings energy and new ideas?
    • Whose behavior or attitudes significantly influence the team?
    • Who embraces and drives changes within the team?
  3. Identify Culture Carriers: Similarly, identify 2-3 individuals who are culture carriers. Reflect on:
    • Who consistently upholds and models the team's values?
    • Who supports and implements the initiatives and ideas effectively?
    • Who provides stability and reliability in the team?
  4. Evaluate Support Structures: Assess how well these individuals are supported. Consider:
    • Are their contributions recognized and valued?
    • Do they have the resources and support they need to be effective?
    • How can you or the leadership better support these key individuals?
  5. Identify Gaps: Reflect on any gaps in your team's culture dynamics. Are there aspects of culture creation or carrying that are being neglected? How can these gaps be addressed?
