Lesson 2 Practice

Completion requirements

Arguably, one cultural blindspot that appears from time to time in the American church is resistance to initiatives to help the poor and marginalized in society. Certainly, we can debate how best to go about such endeavors, yet the biblical principle is clear. Dr. Lyon mentions the “big four”: the widow, the orphan, the stranger, and the poor.

Think through any intersections you have had this past year with individuals in need who might fit into one of these categories. How did you respond? Did you notice? Did you ignore? Do you have any ideas about what you might do about it?

Pray about it. Is there something God is prompting you to do? Consider talking to someone else about it. Are there others with a gnawing feeling in their heart that something should be done? What might a next step be?

Write up your reflections and upload them to the platform.
