  • Module 7: The Doctrine of Salvation and Ethics

    Introduction

This module combines two topics in theology. The first is the doctrine of salvation, “soteriology.” Dr. Bounds presents three biblical metaphors for sin and the three corresponding biblical themes of salvation from that sin. In our discussion, we will explore the extent to which God wants to free us from sin in this life. The second focus of the lesson is on Christian ethics, which Jesus summed up in the twin commands of loving God and loving our neighbor. Dr. Bounds explores some historic understandings of what it might mean to love.

    Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

    • Articulate the three primary metaphors for sin and salvation in Scripture.
    • Express a position on the extent to which we can be freed from sin in this life.
    • Explain what a Christian ethic is and what it might mean to love God and one’s neighbor.
