  • Lesson 4: The Prophets

In this Lesson, we look at the story of Israel from the period of kings to the exile to the re-establishment of Israel thereafter. This was also the period of the prophets, whom God used to call Israel back to him time and time again. This period starts around 1000 BC with King David. Then the Kingdom of Israel split into the Northern and Southern Kingdoms. The Northern Kingdom would fall to the Assyrians in 722 BC because of its unfaithfulness to God. The Southern Kingdom, named Judah, remained intact until 586 BC. After the exile, the prophets’ messages mostly shift to hope. Despite past transgressions, God continues to have a plan for his people, promising to send another king, the Messiah, who is Jesus Christ.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

    1. Identify the Historical and Prophetic Books of the Old Testament and give a brief description of each one.
    2. Describe the consequences of sin among God’s people and God’s continual offer of restoration and redemption
