  • Lesson 3: Wisdom and Worship

This lesson pauses the story of Israel with David and Solomon, who ruled Israel in the early 900s BC. They are the traditional authors of most of the Poetic and Wisdom Books of the Old Testament. David is the reputed author of most of the Psalms, while Solomon is traditionally considered the source behind most of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon. Along with Job, these “philosophical” books are the focus of this lesson.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

    1. Identify the Poetic Books of the Old Testament and give a brief description of each one.
    2. Describe how the Israelites worshiped God, thought about life’s challenges, and celebrated human love.
