In this lesson, we will discuss the Wesleyan “high view” of scripture: That the Bible is the whole and sole rule of Christian faith and practice. In order to understand scripture, God provided us some tools to aid us in that endeavour: reason, tradition, experience, and the Holy Spirit.
This lesson aims to equip you to:
- Realize that reason works alongside faith as a means of interpreting scripture.
- Realize that tradition is a valuable asset for grounding us when interpreting scripture.
- Realize that experience means that we can see scripture being lived out and perceived in our lives.
- Realize that the Holy Spirit not only inspired the original authors but also assists those who study scripture with earnest prayer.
