  • Lesson 2: Firm Grip

In this lesson, we will discuss the Wesleyan “high view” of scripture: That the Bible is the whole and sole rule of Christian faith and practice. In order to understand scripture, God provided us some tools to aid us in that endeavour: reason, tradition, experience, and the Holy Spirit.

This lesson aims to equip you to:

    1. Realize that reason works alongside faith as a means of interpreting scripture.
    2. Realize that tradition is a valuable asset for grounding us when interpreting scripture.
    3. Realize that experience means that we can see scripture being lived out and perceived in our lives.
    4. Realize that the Holy Spirit not only inspired the original authors but also assists those who study scripture with earnest prayer.
