  • Lesson 2: Stigma and Acceptance

In its pages, the Bible mentions several individuals with various disabilities. Isaac experienced blindness in his old age. Moses struggled with a speech impediment. The Apostle Paul mentions having a “thorn in the flesh.” This is not even to mention the numerous healing miracles of Jesus. These stories not only reveal the physical and mental challenges these individuals endured but also the social stigma some faced in the Bible. God valued each and every person regardless of their physical or mental challenges. This lesson explores God’s care for those with disabilities in the Bible and Christ’s redemption of all such stigma.

This lesson aims to equip you to:

    1. Recognize the connection between various individuals with disabilities in Scripture and individuals with disabilities today.
    2. Become more aware of the stigma that often accompanies individuals with disabilities today even in the church.
    3. Resolve to see your church be Christ-like in its ministry to the disabled.
