  • Lesson 2: The Why Behind the What

No objective, however important, can ever be a substitute for God’s basic purpose for this church.

    -Laurel Buckingham

The lesson focuses on the importance of communicating the “why” behind the need for change. You will be able to explain the reasons behind proposed changes in a way that makes it clear and compelling for your congregation. If your congregation knows “the why,” they will be much more likely to accept the need for change.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

    1. Explain how clarity in purpose can drive a mission forward and the dangers of not having this clarity.
    2. Identify when you are getting sidetracked by secondary pursuits.
    3. Recognize the benefits of a unified vision and how a shared purpose can bring about unity, commitment, and effectiveness within a group or organization.
