  • Lesson 2: Creation

In this lesson, we explore the doctrine of God as the Creator of the heavens and the earth. We investigate important truths regarding creation, including the concept of creation ex nihilo (“out of nothing”), the goodness of everything God has created, and the grace God demonstrated in the act of creation. Additionally, we discuss the significance of human beings as the crowning act of creation, made in the image and likeness of God and the glory of God in creation. Because we are created in God’s image, humans can have a unique fellowship and relationship with God.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

    1. Explain the concept of creation ex nihilo and its implications for the relationship between God and creation.
    2. Recognize the inherent goodness of everything that God has created and its significance in understanding God’s character.
    3. Describe the act of creation as an expression of God's grace, highlighting his giving nature rather than a need for something.
    4. Identify the special status and purpose of human beings as image bearers of God and the glory of God in creation.
    5. Appreciate the intimate fellowship and relationship with God that is made possible through being created in His image and likeness.
