  • Lesson 4: A Charge to Keep

Did you know that women could be bishops in the early centuries of the church? The exclusive male focus of church history developed over time. Meanwhile, a Wesleyan preached the service of the first woman ordained in America, and in the 1940s some 40% of the ministers in the Pilgrim Church were women. This lesson shows how women in ministry is part of the fundamental DNA of The Wesleyan Church, which continues to this day!

This lesson aims to equip you to:

    1. Articulate the fact that women played leadership and ministry roles throughout church history well beyond the New Testament church.
    2. Describe the significant role that women in ministry and leadership has played in the Wesleyan tradition and the history of The Wesleyan Church.
