  • Lesson 3: Getting Paul Straight

There are two or three verses that are flash points in debates over women in ministry. Not only are these verses often taken out of context, but they can be used as excuses to ignore the weight of the rest of Scripture. This lesson not only digs into 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 and 1 Timothy 2:12 but also the household codes of Ephesians, Colossians, and 1 Peter.

This lesson aims to equip you to:

    1. Read the key passages of 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 and 1 Timothy 2:12-15 in their literary and historical contexts.
    2. Distinguish between questions of women in ministry leadership and questions of headship in the home.
    3. Articulate an egalitarian perspective on the New Testament household codes.
